Definition of Anxiety

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a combined word for a feeling of fear, danger and those situations that you are not ready to handle. Your brain automatically responds to these types of situations by making you feel anxious. Being anxious during such situations is not bad, it’s a normal emotion that correspondingly act to your state of mind. In fact, anxiety can help you stay alert, alarmed and focused, shoot you to action, and motivate you to overcome.

Everyone feel anxious at some or the other time and also, level of anxiety and symptoms vary from person to person.

There are 2 types of anxiety symptoms

1. Emotional anxiety symptoms

– Your mind goes blank.

– You start to loose concentration.

– Your mind starts thinking of all bad consequences.

– You start to get irritated very easily.

2. Physical anxiety symptoms

– Cheeks become red.

– Body temperature rises.

– Hands start shaking.

– Heart beat become fast and rapid.

– Sudden sweating.

– Fatigue and insomnia.

– Body ache.

– Frequent urination or stomach disorder.

Situations when you feel anxious!!

• Some have stage fright, such as any task where you have to present yourself to many people at the same time.

• When it’s your important day, for eg. Job interview, examination etc.

• When you are worried or troubled because of something.

• When you have exaggerated fear of a specific object, activity, or situation.

• When you recall any tragic event from past.

Way to overcome anxiety by yourself!!

• If you have stage fear, then take a deep breath and start speaking loudly and do some hand movements to overcome anxiety.

• If it is your important day,then before any exam or interview take 15-20 minutes break to relax your mind.

• If some past memory is troubling you then try to remember the best day or best memory you had in your life.

• Reading books, articles,news etc can help you lot in distracting fear and worries.

• Take a bath and sleep for 1-2 hours, if you are feeling irritated or worried.

• During workload pressure try to give 15 minutes to regular exercise and meditation.

When your anxiety becomes a serious issue.

When your anxiety becomes a serious health disorder that is majorly affecting both your personal and social life. Then, you have an immediate obligation to consult a doctor or a therapist. Some simple Remedies include:

– Medications: Like antipsychotics, antidepressant and other anxiety-reducing drugs. But these should be strictly avoided as they may have life threatening side effects if taken for a long period of time.

– Psychiatrist: Mental illness, depression can affect your emotional life, you can seek help of a psychiatrist or psychotherapist who can help you to overcome and handle those situations.

– Cognitive-behavioral therapy: A type of psychotherapy which help to heals a person by teaching him how to identify and change negative thought and behaviors that lead to troublesome feelings.

– Dietary and lifestyle changes: Changing your daily food chart and indulging in good habits of eating fresh and healthy food can also help you to get rid of anxiety.

– Relaxation therapy

– Yoga, morning walk or jogging

Self-help is the most appropriate way to overcome anxiety, know your weaknesses and override it with your strengths, and one day you will see that your anxiety will nullify with your potential.
