Medifast & Diet Pills – Can You Use Weight Loss Medications With the Medifast Program?

Many people wonder if is okay to use weight loss medications such as appetite suppressants with the Medifast program. Here’s an overview of the medications that are okay to use with Medifast and those that aren’t.

First, let’s take a look at what medications are available. There are only a handful of different ones that are approved by the FDA specifically for weight loss. The most well known are Meridia, which suppresses appetite and helps increase your body’s fat-burning ability; Phentermine, which decreases your appetite and stimulates your metabolism; and Orlistat, which partially blocks your body’s ability to digest and absorb the fats you eat.

Both Meridia and Orlistat (also known as Xenical) are approved for long term use. Phentermine is approved only for short term use because it can be potentially addictive. With your doctor’s approval, both Meridia and Phentermine can generally be safely used with the Medifast program. Orlistat, on the other hand, should not be used with Medifast at all because the meals are already very low in fat and you need some fats in your diet for certain vitamins.

All of these are only available from your doctor if you fit certain criteria related to your BMI. If you have obesity and health conditions that are related to it though, you may want to discuss the options with your doctor. Be sure to tell your Doctor about Medifast too so you can discuss the best way to use it along with any medication.

Also, I should mention that there is also an over the counter medication that is similar to Orlistat. This is Alli. You’ve probably heard of it already. Since you shouldn’t take Orlistat while using Medifast, you also shouldn’t take Alli. Because it is a fat blocker, it can mean that you will be getting too little vitamin D and other important fat-soluble vitamins if you use it in conjunction with Medifast.

Before you decide to ask your doctor about a prescription though, you might want to give the Medifast program a try for a few weeks by itself. Because of the way the program works, most people who use it to lose weight find that they don’t really get that hungry after the first three to five days.

Because Medifast is high in protein and provides adequate fiber it works to give you a sense of satiety which should keep you from getting hungry. Also, once you are in the fat-burning state known as ketosis, that tends to suppress your appetite as well. So most dieters do fine without needing an additional appetite suppressant. However, if you do find that you still need to curb your hunger and you’d like extra help, there are definitely weight loss medications you can take with Medifast. You’ll just need to talk to your doctor about them to see if there’s one that is appropriate for you.

Ginger and the Candida Diet

Ginger ale soda and ginger snap cookies are two things that probably come to most of our minds when thinking about ginger. These are extremely tasty ways to consume ginger however, they are sure not the healthiest ways to consume it and consuming it like this can be very problematic for those of us following the candida diet to treat candidiasis. Candidiasis is a medical condition characterized by an overgrowth of Candida albicans, a typically benign type of yeast, in our intestinal systems. The cornerstone of treatment for this condition is the candida diet which seeks to eliminate foods which feed the Candida albicans and enable it to continue to grow and cause problems throughout the body. Ginger ale soda and ginger snap cookies both contain ingredients that can exacerbate candidiasis, sugar probably being the worst offender. Although eating ginger via soda and cookies may not be the healthiest thing to do fresh ginger is a great addition to any diet but especially to the candida diet. Ginger has a wide variety of health benefits and its unique sweet yet spicy flavor can help jazz up many candida diet recipes.

Ginger is derived from the rhizome, the underground stem of the ginger plant. Ginger root, as fresh ginger is commonly known is covered with a tough brown skin that sort of looks like the bark of a tree. The flesh of the ginger root is most commonly a yellowish color but different varieties may be white or even red. Ginger root is very easy to find and is available year-round in the produce section of the supermarket. Ginger is the main ingredient found in many Asian dishes. Although ginger is available ground the taste of ground ginger is different from that of fresh ginger. Additionally, the ground type of ginger is thought to have less of the active ingredients responsible for ginger’s numerous health benefits.

Ginger has a wide variety of health benefits but there is one that is of particular interest to candidiasis sufferers. Candidiasis is thought to occur due to on overgrowth of yeast which eventually weakens the immune system. The immune boosting effects of ginger due to the presence of gingerrols can help strengthen the immune system and make it more equipped to handle and correct an overgrowth of yeast. Additionally, ginger can also alleviate many of the chronic systems that plague those with candidiasis. Ginger can provide relief from gastrointestinal distress, inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and nausea. Several research studies have also concluded that ginger protects against and can even help treat certain types of cancer.

Although candida dieters may not be able to enjoy ginger the traditional way, via sugary soda and cookies, adding fresh ginger to your candida diet plan can be extremely beneficial to your health in many ways.

Lose Weight Quickly and Easily with a Grapefruit Cleansing Diet

If you’re looking for a quick way to lose some weight, try starting a cleansing or detox diet. They are called this because your body goes through a detoxification process when you follow this type of diet. As you under go this detoxification, your body, specifically your liver, rids itself of harmful toxins and other unnatural compounds. One of the more popular kinds of these diets is the Grapefruit Cleanse.

This type of cleanse is a very mild approach used to purify your body from harmful toxins. The grapefruit is consumed at the beginning of each meal. The great thing about grapefruit compared to other modes of cleansing is the fact it is a source of nutrition and sustenance. You can also choose to go on this diet at any time for any length of time without worrying about any harmful side effects either. Here are some steps to follow in using this cleansing diet:

  • Before you jump right into the diet, choose a time when it will best to start it. The best time is when you won’t be too overwhelmed at work and won’t be under a lot of stress. I wouldn’t recommend any traveling or road trips either when starting this diet. Grapefruit will cause you to go to the bathroom more frequently than usual.
  • In order to go on a grapefruit cleansing diet, you’re going to need a lot of fresh grapefruit. Go with a store that sells organically grown grapefruit. True, you’ll end up paying more but the health benefits you’ll get will be worth it. The rest of the ingredients you’ll use are cheap and easy to find.
  • As you’re following this diet, you should always try to take one hot shower every day. Scrub all over your body with either a sponge or loofah. The scrubbing acts as a stimulus to improve the blood circulation which helps to get rid of toxins. It is also important that you try to get plenty of exercise. Most health experts call for at least 45 minutes every day while on the diet. Try not to overdo it though. This cleansing diet is very low-calorie and you may feel a dramatic loss of energy. Pace yourself.
  • Once your cleanse is over, don’t jump back into eating a full meal. You’ll send your body into shock. Instead, eat sensibly and work your system back to normal slowly. You don’t want to ruin all that hard work by gaining everything back either. paying a little more but they will be better and healthier for you. The rest of the ingredients in this cleanse are cheap and easy to find.
  • During the cleanse, you’ll need a source of vitamins to remain healthy. I recommend finding a good multi-vitamin, preferably with all-natural ingredients. First, start with drinking about 10 eight ounce glasses of purified water every day. It is imperative that you drink this amount. If you can’t drink ten, that’s fine but always drink more than seven at the very least. Follow whichever variation of the Grapefruit Cleansing Diet you chose to follow strictly. No matter what you are eating grapefruit for every meal so I hope you like its taste.

Recipes For a Detox Diet and Your Oxidation Rate

Knowing your oxidation rate is a critical piece of information for your health. Your oxidation rate in simple terms is how fast do you burn food? Some people burn food slowly while others burn food fast. In either case knowing this critical piece of information, has a huge effect on matching you with the correct recipes for detox diet and your health.

A person who burns food fast is called a fast oxidizer and a person who burns food slowly is called a slow oxidizer. A fast oxidizer needs more slow burning food such as a diet with more high quality good fat and oil. The slow burning food is a good match for the fast oxidizer as that person will sustain energy.

In contrast the slow oxidizer can have a diet of more fast burning food such as grain products, but less of the high quality fat and oil. So there is a huge distinction between the two in terms of their metabolic needs.

If your diet is not matching your oxidation rate your not getting the right matching food for the speed at which your body burns food. This matching element for correct diet is one of the main keys to good health.

Now that you know your oxidation rate is critical, how do you find out your oxidization rate?

The key is your hair, although your hair is dead it’s a storage site for all your macro minerals, trace minerals and toxic metals. As the hair grows out these minerals and toxins are deposited in the hair over a 3 to 4 month period. Through a hair mineral test and with the expertise of a laboratory that examines your hair properly, you can determine your oxidation rate. Once this vital piece of information is known, you can pin point your exact diet for you and only you. (See Analytical Research Laboratory)

No more guess work! And for the folks that had the intutition that all foods don’t effect everyone the same, bravo you were right and the two oxidation rates are why. An example would be if you’re a fast oxidizer than lots of grains, and fruits are not a great choice due to grains and fruits burn very quickly and for fast oxidation sustained energy can’t be possible. The fast oxidizer will always be hungry not long after they eat. I know there are those saying that’s me, I get hungry an hour after I eat and the reason is an incorrect diet.

Now in contrast if the fast oxidizer eats slow burning food like eggs, olive oil, butter or some nuts (as an example) than sustained energy will happen and the need to eat will slow down. Slow oxidizers have the reverse effect, they need and can eat faster burning food which will sustain their energy levels.

So to simplify this, there are some people who are like a car speeding along on a highway that burns fuel very fast. (fast oxidizer) And the other is the car that is riding slowly down a side street. (slow oxidizers)

If we take the analogy one step further it’s like a car that needs unleaded gas but your putting in some diesel fuel mixed with some unleaded gas. It’s the wrong fuel! It will work but not at its best and over time repairs will be needed.

Now that the concept of your oxidation and diet has been explained lets talk about detox diet. The buzz word “detox diet” is being thrown out there frequently but unless you know your oxidation rate you may be eating the wrong food or the wrong food a lot of the time. Detox diets must match a person’s oxidation rate.

In this article I present to you a sample meal plan for both slow and fast oxidizers.

Recipes for Detox Diet:

Breakfast for Slow oxidizer:

2 eggs with spinach omelet, in 1 teaspoon of olive oil or butter

1 slice Ezekiel bread plain

1/4 cup of blueberries

Breakfast for Fast oxidizer:

2 eggs with spinach omelet, in 3 tablespoons of olive oil or butter

2 links organic turkey sausage

1 celery stalk with almond butter

In this example the slow oxidizer breakfast has much less fat and oil in their meal and is allowed to have a high quality grain product as well as a small amount of fruit. The slow oxidizer will burn that food slowly and sustain energy through out the morning.

In contrast the fast oxidizer needs more olive oil or butter in there diet and more fat and oil in the almond

butter and turkey sausage. This combination of food will burn slowly for the fast oxidizer and keep that individual with sustained energy through out the morning.

Lunch for the Slow oxidizer:

4 oz Roasted Chicken Breast, very light butter and garlic

1 cup steamed carrots with 1 teaspoon of butter and sea salt

1/2 cup brown rice

Lunch for the Fast oxidizer:

4 oz Roasted chicken thighs, made with modest amount of butter and garlic

1 cup of steamed carrots with 3 tablespoons of butter and sea salt

Pecans 6-8

In this example again you can see that the slow oxidizer has much less fat and oil than the fast oxidizer.

Both have there protein and vegetable. Slow has the grain (brown rice) the fast has more fat and oil.

(dark meat chicken, butter and pecan) THe slow has the chicken breast much less fat.

Dinner for the Slow oxidizer:

4 oz Flounder broiled with garlic and splash of lemon

Swiss chard with cranberries, small amount of olive oil

Sweet potato plain

Dinner for Fast oxidizer:

4 oz Flounder with butter and garlic

Swiss chard with almonds and butter and olive oil

Sweet potato with 3 tablespoons of butter

Again we see that the slow oxidizer can have flounder with lemon and the slow can have the cranberries and plain sweet potato. The fast has the flounder with butter which has more fat and also the fast has more butter on the sweet potato and fat in the almonds.

These recipes are examples of the distinction between the oxidation rates of slow and fast individuals. Without knowing the speed your body burns food all the detox diets in the world will have little or no positive effect and even can be harmful.

For example the popular lemon detox diet is not a good choice for fast oxidizers as their rate of oxidation requires slower burning food. Lemon is a fruit and therefore burns very fast and this kind of detox regimen should be avoided.

Matching your body with the correct detox diet as well as matching your body with the correct supplements and life style modifications are so much more healthy for the long term than fad diets or fad liquid berry drinks. Not only will you detox correctly and safely your correct diet will have excellent effects on weight loss and weight gain. Its very simple, know your oxidation rate!

I would like to quickly mention that as a rule of thumb avoid foods that have had something added or something taken away. The best quality foods are ones that are in a natural state the way your great grandma used to eat them.

Mono Treatment – Diet

During mono treatment a healthy, immune-boosting diet is essential for a good recovery.

In the initial, acute stage of mononucleosis, appetite is often poor. Symptoms like nausea, a swollen throat, fever and fatigue make eating difficult. In these cases mono treatment should focus on a liquid-only diet. A liquid-only diet allows the gastrointestinal tract to rest so energy is averted to healing the body.

Liquids you could try might include broth, soups, herb teas, lemon drinks and pure water. Freshly squeezed vegetable juices based around lots of green vegetables like celery, cucumber and spinach are very cleansing during mono treatment. You can add a small amount of carrot, parsnip or beet root to sweeten your juice, or add some ginger or garlic to give it a warming effect. I always recommend that you water down your juice (about 50:50) so it is not too concentrated.

Garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper, turmeric, chili peppers, and onions are great to add to your teas, soups and juices due to their powerful health benefits on the throat and respiratory system.

During mono treatment you will also need to eliminate your intake of all dairy products and grains, because they may contribute to mucus in the body. In addition, avoid coffee, sugar, alcohol, soft drinks and artificial colors and flavorings.

When you are feeling stronger and your appetite is starting to return you can start to reintroduce some more foods. Start with fresh lightly steamed vegetables and heavier soups. If these are tolerated then you can add back some raw vegetables and salads. Eat small quantities of fresh fruits like pineapple, paw paw and kiwi fruit which are anti-inflammatory in nature. Nuts and seeds, eggs, legumes, free-range meats, poultry and fish can then be introduced. As your appetite improves you can increase your portion size.

Once you are over the acute stage of mononucleosis you need to continue your mono treatment with a long term healthy diet. For optimal immunity, make sure that you get a good supply of fresh, ripe vegetables and fruits, quality protein and essential fats. Excess grains, processed foods, alcohol and coffee should be minimized.

If you feed your body correctly during mono treatment, it is unlikely that your illness will progress into a secondary infection like bronchitis, pneumonia or a more serious condition like chronic fatigue. You will quicken your recovery and keep this nasty illness at bay for life.

The Green Tea Diet – 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge – Does it Work?

I’m sure I can speak for most people, that we want to sustain a healthy life so that we have the ability to live up to a ripe old age. One such sore subject we never like dealing with is weight loss. It’s the type of thing that we can turn on like a light switch, and on the opposite end, turn it off. But not exactly to our own free will. Weight loss and exercise was something I have always wanted to pursue and keep doing, but what are the right things for a man my age that I can easily do. I’ve decided to give the Green Tea diet a check for thirty days and see what all the buzz is about. I’ve heard so much good things, and doctors and scientists believe this herb has many positive elements that can help me curb my appetite, lower my blood pressure, and feel young.

Just an overview on what I have to deal with. First of all, I’m about 40 lbs over weight, I don’t have the best metabolism but I do live an active lifestyle full of sports. Secondly, I have inherited hypertension, it is in both my father’s side of the family and my mother’s, it’s inescapable! That is the overall realization I’m faced with, a foundation for my study. Let’s see what some of the results come out to be.

I dove head first into this diet to achieve one thing, not to lose the weight, but to see what it does to my blood pressure without depending on blood pressure medication. I’ll still eat my three square meals a day and use the green tea solution as my snack in between meals. Because believe me, I love my in-between snacks, and who doesn’t? So in the beginning of March, I took my last blood pressure pill, and bombs away!

After drinking green tea for the first week, I’ve noticed a drop in my blood pressure readings close to what they were when I took blood pressure pills. I was shocked because I didn’t think there was something that could have dropped it like that. I’ve also noticed a less desire to eat when I drink the tea, I don’t know where it comes from, but it could be a result on filling up on fluids. After another couple weeks, my blood pressure has held steady, so I know it is doing its thing. And after the final days, still no spike in the readings, so I was hooked. In the thirty days, I have also lost seven pounds, very nice! It seemed to me the urban legend was the truth! The one negative, green tea is not the most tastiest of teas, it kind of has that hint of grassy seaweed taste, but you get used to it.

In addition, from what I understand, green tea has antioxidants to prevent sickness, make our skin feel smooth, and protect our memory. But by seeing the short term effects, I can say that I will make green tea a regular staple in my diet. I would not recommend green tea pills as they have caffeine in there, don’t want to be up into the wee hours of the morning! All in all, my thirty day test has proven that green tea has great positive properties that just can’t be ignored. Let’s see what other effects it has six months from now!

Diet That Cures a Leaky Gut

The healthy intestinal tract takes up only food substances that have been divided into tiny absorbable particles that become simple sugars. The intestinal tract is also the first line of defense. Not only does it prevent harmful bacteria and toxic ingredients from coming into the blood vessels, it also generates an antibody that neutralizes intruders and stops them from invading the digestive system.

Increase damaged in the intestinal tract may lead to the reduced absorption of beneficial nutrients needed by the body. Leaky gut syndrome is often the cause of lacking important nutritional value in the body.

When the intestinal tract becomes more permeable than it is expected to be, it allows harmful substances to get into the system. These harmful substances may activate allergic/immune reactions in the digestive system and different parts of the body.

When this happens, our body acts with alarm. The defense mechanism makes antibodies and attacks these “foreign” invaders in the system. Many different hypersensitive and auto-immune side effects may follow. Serious exhaustion is common, as it is a manifestation of a body regularly experiencing a constant risk.

Symptoms of a leaky gut include:

• Abdominal pain (chronic to acute)

• Stomach ache(mild to severe)

• Extreme gas/bloating

• Depression

• Chronic Fatigue

• Asthma

• Chronic Sinusitis

• Food Allergies

• Eczema

• Migraines

• Headaches

• Candida

• Inflammatory Bowel Disease

• Irritable Bowel Syndrome

• Joint Pains

• Arthritis

• Fibromyalgia

• Autoimmune Disease

• Gluten intolerance

• Persistent kidney attacks

• Bedwetting

• Genital infections

• Serious acne

• Healing the Intestinal Tract.

Damage in the intestinal tract is restorative if given a complete chance of prevention from everything that irritates it. And food has a great factor in correcting these damages. A right dietary plan is needed to restore the healthy intestinal tract.

A leaky gut cannot process large sugar substances, so these are to be prevented. Starchy foods and disaccharide carbohydrates are also to be prevented because a broken intestinal tract is incapable to generate enzyme Lactase needed to break them down. These preventions can help eliminate or reduce the entrance of pathogenic viruses, yeast and other viruses that keep damaging the intestinal tract. It is also necessary to avoid any foods to which a person is allergic.

Start to cure the leaky gut, it is necessary to eliminate or avoid all of the following foods:

• Dairy food (butter, buttermilk, mozzarella dairy product, cottage type mozzarella dairy product, ice cream, ice use products, kefir, use products, quark, yogurt).

• Grains (amaranth, barley, buckwheat, bulgur, maize, millet, oatmeal, grain, rye, semolina, spelt, triticale, wheat, rice).

• Peas

• Dried beans

• Chickpeas

• Soy marinade /tofu

• Starchy vegetables (beets, carrots, parsnips, apples, pumpkin, squash, turnip, white flour)

• High glycemic fruit (banana, dried fruit, fruit juices).

• Brown sugar

• Cane juice

• Maize syrup

• Maple sugar, molasses

• Table sugar

• Stop drinking alcohol

• Cheese

• Apple cider vinegar

The PH of semen is 7 and scientifically neutral, yet it tastes slightly acidic. Let’s take a look at the actual ingredients of semen.

A man’s ejaculate is actually only 1% sperm.

The rest is composed of various proteins, vitamins, sugars, salts, cholesterol, and water. All the extras are what protect, feeds, fuels the sperm in its journey.

As you can see in terms of semen’s composition, it’s fairly obvious that what you eat will make it taste better or worse!
