Diabetic Diet: How Tangerines and Oranges Can Help Cure Diabetes

Don’t let anyone fool you. It is possible to cure type 2 diabetes and you can include many foods in your diabetic diet that contain substances that help cure diabetes.

Recent research proves that tangerines and oranges contain a substance called nobiletin that helps to cure diabetes. Specifically, nobiletin prevents the build up of fat in the liver and the subsequent over productive of insulin due to increasing glucose in the blood. Nobiletin also prevents the build-up of arterial plaque which causes heart disease and stroke.

Nobiletin is a very powerful antioxidant in a family of antioxidants called flavonoids. Antioxidants eradicate free radicals in the body that can lead to cancer, a compromised immune system, and a weakened body that can make it ripe for the development of diabetes. The underlying causes of all of these disorders are the same.

Tangerines contain more nobiletin than do oranges but both have a good quantity. Nobiletin is not found in lemons or grapefruit however. However, as an example of how variety is always good, lemons help diabetics in many other ways including very significantly lowering the glycemic index of any food it is added to and making your cells less insulin resistant.

The nobiletin is found in the tissues of the fruit and in the peel so just drinking juice is not as good as eating the whole fruit for this benefit. Grated peel is also a very tasty addition to salads and stirfries. You can also seep tangerine or orange peel in hot water for an excellent and very healthy tea. In fact, tangerine peel is has a mildly sweet flavor as a tea.

You really can can cure diabetes through diet and other natural means. I know because I cured my diabetes this way. I went from a HgAC1 of 10.6 to less than 6 (my last reading was 5.2) in less than 6 months and I’ve been able to keep it that way for quite a long time now. When I was first diagnosed, they were giving me insulin and then they wanted me to take a variety of prescription drugs for life.

They kept talking about how my disease would progress like it was a definite foregone conclusion this would happen. I finally said, “NO!” to the drugs, shopped around to find another doctor who would support my efforts to cure my diabetes naturally, and educated myself extensively on what to eat and what not to eat – and much of it is not as intuitive as you might think!

Foods That Cause Acid Reflux – Your Key to a Successful GERD Diet

There are some specific diets for acid reflux disease or GERD that can be used for those who have this problem. It’s important that you recognize and reduce your intake of foods that cause acid reflux. Therefore, your GERD diet needs to be extremely simple and shouldn’t have a lot of spices or fats as this can lead to a sluggish digestion. This adds all the more to the trouble. Since acid reflux and diet are related, your diet should follow the following principles:

Fruits, vegetables and drinks that should be avoided

Caffeine and other drinks should be avoided. Soda and aerated drinks should be completely avoided. Also, alcohol should be taken sparingly because it loosens the muscle strength of the LES and makes it sluggish. This can then cause stomach acids to move back into the esophagus from the stomach. Alcohol also increases the amount of stomach acid which is also disadvantageous.

Chocolate and peppermint should also be avoided. These foods can also relax the LES muscle leading to more of a buildup in the esophagus. For example, chocolate contains theobromine which relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter.

Tobacco and citrus fruits should be completely avoided as well when considering acid reflux and diet since they also relax the LES. But fiber rich fruits should be taken such as apples for acid reflux, as it helps in bowel movement and reduces the stress levels. Water should also be taken in plenty. Fatty and oil rich foods like hamburger should also be avoided because they are high in saturated fat which take longer for your body to digest inviting GERD to flare up.

Apples are great but apple cider is not

Apples for acid reflux work great as do bananas. Some fruits like grapes, peaches, raspberries and strawberries can for a part of GERD diet but should be taken in moderation. Apples for acid reflux are fine but apple cider isn’t a great idea.

Remember that vegetable that can cause gas should be avoided at this time, since they add to the problem. Some of the vegetables that shouldn’t form a part of the a GERD diet include cauliflower, cabbage, leeks, sauerkraut, beans and many more. Tomatoes and tomato base sauces should also be completely avoided.

By avoiding foods that cause acid reflux, you stand a far great chance of improving your acid reflux and diet. Interestingly, something as simple as apples for acid reflux can be a great start towards better health not just for GERD but for other ailments as well.

3 Foods to Avoid If You Have Helicobacter Pylori

H pylori can cause severe and debilitating symptoms, or very mild symptoms, depending on the person who has the bacteria and the strain of bacteria involved. Not everyone is affected equally. Typical symptoms include general malaise, fatigue, mood problems as well as widely recognised digestive symptoms like heartburn, reflux (GERD), bloating, nausea, vomiting and bad breath.

Doctors often prescribe antacid medications or laxatives for these symptoms; sometimes they will have the foresight to run testing for H pylori and other digestive infections. If H pylori is found triple therapy antibiotics are typically prescribed to kill the H pylori. This form of therapy has recently been shown to be only 50-70% effective, however.

Even when H pylori has been confirmed as having been eradicated, a patient’s symptoms often remain. This confuses doctor and patient alike. Diet is rarely considered in these situations, but in actual fact, common foods that are consumed on a daily basis by many people can cause exactly the same symptoms as the Helicobacter itself.

Food #1 – Gluten

Gluten (more accurately, gliadin) is a protein molecule that is found in the grains wheat, barley, rye and spelt. All foods that contain these grains have gluten in them (e.g. bread, pasta, cakes, biscuits, cereals, pizza). Many people are gluten-intolerant and in my experience gluten is the number one problem food. Gluten causes inflammation in the small intestine, much like H pylori. In many cases, simply eliminating the gluten can dramatically reduce symptoms. Sometimes people cannot eradicate H pylori until they have been on a gluten-free diet for at least 60-days.

Food #2 – Coffee

I love coffee, but unfortunately in any form coffee is an irritant to the digestive system. Many people report having heartburn, reflux and other digestive symptoms when they drink coffee. It is best to reduce coffee consumption if H pylori bacteria are present.

Food #3 – Soy

Soy foods have in recent times been touted as being healthy and, in some cases, miracle foods. However this information is far from the truth. In fact, soy is not a healthy food for most people. Even in Japan it is the number one allergy causing food. It can have a direct impact on the digestive system and cause similar symptoms to H pylori (it causes me to have wind, bloating and loose stools). Many people experience significant improvements when they eliminate soy in all forms. Several other foods, including cow’s milk and vegetable oils, should also be avoided if H pylori is diagnosed.

A complete list of these foods as well as the appropriate diet and herbal protocol for H pylori sufferers is available in the Overcoming H Pylori Naturally eBook at

Teen Diet Plans – Can Teens Use the Medifast Diet to Lose Weight?

Are you are teen or do you have a teen in your household who needs to lose weight? If you have used Medifast yourself, or you’ve seen the ads for it on television, you might be wondering, “Can teens use the Medifast diet to lose weight?”

I expect you will be happy to learn that teens can use Medifast too. You will want to look over the program for teens though, because it isn’t the same as the adult diet plan.

The adult diet program is called the 5 and 1 plan. On this plan, you eat five Medifast meals each day as well as an additional meal that they’ve dubbed the lean and green meal. This is the only meal that you eat non-Medifast food and your servings are restricted to lean protein and fresh vegetables.

The teen plans, however, have a lot more regular food on them and they cut back on the number of Medifast products that are eaten throughout the day. The teen weight loss plan includes three Medifast meals per day, instead of five.

Because teenagers have different nutritional needs than adults, due to their growing and changing bodies, the Medifast diet for teens includes whole grains, fruits and dairy products. These are things you won’t see on the adult plan, but they are crucial for teens.

Of course, the teen plan also includes lean protein, such as lean meats and meatless proteins (such as beans and tofu), and lots of fresh vegetables. The fruits and vegetables part of the diet follows standard guidelines, five servings per day. Also, there are a few differences between the plans for teenage boys and teenage girls, with the boys’ plan adding some additional quantities of whole grains and fats.

A big aspect of the plan for teens is using the Medifast plan to make a lifestyle change, so there are lots of tips for eating a healthy diet and how to incorporate better meals into a teenager’s day. Plus, exercise and being active outdoors is important as well, so there are suggestions for adding more activity to each day. An hour a day of exercise or some kind of sports activity is the usual recommendation, but for sedentary teens, you may want to start just adding 30 minutes of exercise three to four times a week and add more time each week.

Eating Out at Restaurants on the Medifast Diet

I recently received an email from a potential dieter who told me that although she was intrigued with the medifast diet and knew some people who had good results on it, she was reluctant to try it because, as an account executive, she was required to have corporate lunches at restaurants and she obviously could not bring along her medifast meals at these outings. So, she feared that this diet was not going to work for her because she had to go to restaurants a lot for her job. Well, you can eat out on medifast. People do it all the time. You just need to switch around the timing of your lean and green meals and make decent choices. I will discuss this more in the following article.

Lean And Green Meals And When You Can Have Them: When you are on medifast, they want for you to eat six small meals. Five of these will be the diet meals that the company ships to you. These don’t require hardly any work or preparation. But, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to exclusively eat prepackaged meals all of the time so they ask that you prepare a “lean and green meal” composed of fresh proteins and vegetables once per day.

Many people assume that you have this lean and green meal at dinner time, and this practice is the most common. But, nothing says that you can’t take this main meal at lunch time and in a restaurant. As long as you make smart choices, this is going to work out just fine and should not effect your results.

Choosing Your Lean And Green Meal When Eating Out In A Restaurant: The requirements for this meal are actually pretty simple. If you’re having beef, pork or lamb, you can consume five ounces of it. If you’ve having chicken, turkey or fish, you can have up to seven ounces. The rule of thumb here is the well known serving size that is about the size of a deck of cards.

In addition to your protein, you’re allowed three servings of vegetables. Most people will add a salad and a low glycemic vegetable like green beans, but there are pretty clear instructions that come with your foods. Basically, you’re not going to want to eat junk food when you eat out, but if you chose the healthy options that most restaurants offer, you should be OK.

Just try to avoid heavy sauces and have your salad dressing on the side. You can even do fast food if you’re smart about it. Grilled chicken with green beans and a side salad is available at most fast food places. A salad with chicken and low calorie dressing is a sound choice here also as is a lean stir fry.

Now, there are sometimes going to be occasions where you may have to cheat a little bit. This is OK. Because by and large and overall, you are going to be taking in much fewer calories and carbs than what is normal for you when you average everything out. Everyone cheats sometimes. The key is just to get back on track as soon as you can and to move on. A few lunches out is not going to throw everything off track, especially if you are compliant for the rest of the day.

Oprah’s Weight Loss Diet – The Natural Acai Berry and Colon Cleanse of Dr Perricone

Oprah Winfrey, in her famous TV show, together with Dr. Perricone, emphasized the significance of the Acai berry as weight-controller. It was supported by the large levels of antioxidants that the fruit contains. Actually, Oprah has already included the berry in her diet and its effects are already clear. It is a diet-supplement which can be used together with other healthy ingredients. This weight manager got its healthy and powerful properties from the pulp and the skin of the Acai berry fruit. Some of its nutritious components are the amino acids, minerals and vitamins.

Acai berry also functions as a colon cleanser, which is one essential factor for the digestive system’s proper functioning. Some reasons why the Acai berry and colon cleansers are believed to be supplements to each are:

1. The two are weight controllers: The weight of our body relies on the elements of the food we take in and how digestion process occurs. The latter is done by the colon and the former by the berry which makes them support each other.

2. Their functions are similar: Both function as balancing diet-constituents, for proper bowel movement, and for weight reduction which makes their functions and duties equal.

3. There are no known side-effects: Because berry is from nature, it doesn’t cause side-effects to the body. This goes true with colon cleansers wherein their clear side effects are almost minimal. Both the berry and the colon cleanser have almost the same weight loss capabilities.

4. They have similar elements: Both of them contain almost the same elements like amino acids for calorie burning, vitamins, healthy ingredients, etc.

Because of these astonishing similarities in the ingredients and function, it can be believed that what Oprah claims in her show were indeed genuine. Also, Oprah’s takes on the products is carefully planned and managed by a certified doctor, making it more reliable and true.

Foods That Get Rid of Gout – Proven Anti Gout Diet

Recent medical studies show that some fruits and vegetables are amongst the foods that get rid of gout so it makes sense to increase your intake of these gout busting foods.

But not just any old fruit and veg; an effective anti gout diet must include fruit and vegetables that are high in vitamin C.

A recent study has shown that taking Vitamin C reduces your risk of getting this painful and debilitating disease.  In fact for every 500 mg of Vitamin C taken your risk of getting gout was reduced by 17 per cent.  This is great news for gout sufferers.

So the foods that get rid of gout include:

  • citrus fruits and juices
  • strawberries
  • avocados
  • mangoes
  • broccoli
  • sweet red peppers
  • collard greens
  • onions
  • radishes

Anyone who takes at least 1500mg of Vitamin C each day reduces the risk of gout by around 45%.  Almost half!  This vitamin reduces the level of uric acid in the blood which stops uric acid crystallizing in the joints.  An earlier study showed that people who ate more than 2 pieces of fruit each day got less attacks of gout that people who did not.

And Vitamin C rich fruit does more that lower the risk of gout. It also helps with

  • production of the fibrous proteins that make up bone, cartilage, tendons and other connective tissues
  • formation and repair of red blood cells
  • protection against bruising
  • aids the absorption of iron
  • keeps gums healthy
  • heal cuts and wounds
  • strengthen the immune system
  • protects against many cancers and heart disease

Gout is a disease caused by a disturbance in the metabolism of uric acid.  During a gout attack crystals of uric acid form in the joints and this is what causes the excruciating pain. Gout occurs in 8.4 of every 1,000 people and is most common in men over the age of 40.

Jenny Craig – Important Facts on the Jenny Craig Diet Which Would Help You Lose Weight Fast!

The Jenny Craig diet is a mind-action-body weight loss program that helps dieters to lose weight fast. But before one begins to spend hundreds of hard-earned dollars on the Jenny Craig program (mind you, it’s not very cheap), it makes sense to get acquainted with certain facts about the Jenny Craig diet first. The Craig diet plan surely holds a lot of potential but when huge money is at stake, it would be better to gather the relevant knowledge about the plan’s method of functioning and other aspects to make the most off it. To help you out in that very pursuit, here are certain important Jenny Craig diet facts that make weight loss easier laid bare for you:

It Is A Comprehensive Program

For those who have been through the conventional weight loss program memberships which require you to exercise hard and eat miserly, the Jenny Craig plan is a big relief. The program is a comprehensive weight loss schedule which takes care of all related aspects from provision of prepackaged healthy meals, one-on-one consultation from health experts to strategically chalked-out exercise plans in sync with individual needs.

There Is Lots On Offer- Something Suited To Every Need

Unlike other weight loss programs, the Jenny Craig method is lot simpler and really accommodative. So there are no stringent policies and guidelines and one can basically choose the plan which is best suited to his/her individual needs and conveniences. So you could become a part of the Jenny Craig world by either signing up with one of their Jenny Craig Centers, or by signing up for their Jenny direct at-home program. Further, there are a variety of plans to choose from. You could opt for Jenny Tune-Up, the Jenny On-Track program, the Jenny Rewards program, the Gold program or the Platinum program- depending upon how much you require and what your pocket allows. So the offers are really flexible- ranging from a 30 day trial program in the name of Jenny Tune-Up to a lifetime platinum membership.

They Do Not Ask You To Overdo

The program is based on developing a healthier relationship with food, with the view that no food needs to be abhorred and one simply needs to keep a watch on the nutrition front and the serving portions. The overall insistence is on a healthy lifestyle so it’s not going to be like setting extravagant goals that ultimately come to shatters. Particularly good news is that the program is overseen by a team of dieticians and medical advisers and is based on standard dietary guidelines, including those set by the US Government. The quality standards can be expected to be really high therefore while at the same time nothing extraordinary would be expected to be put in by you. So you would be able to please the experts even if you lose 2 pounds a week (and that in turn would keep your enthusiasm in place too!)-remember that the idea is to achieve sustainable results.

The diet, I must admit has nothing of the revolutionary quality to it but the way it is proposed and executed makes all the difference. The Jenny Craig diet HAS done a lot of good to many by freeing them from the shackles of obesity and if you have the required determination and the zeal in you, I see no reason why it should disappoint you in ridding yourself of all those excess pounds.

The Natural Anti-Inflammatory Diet Breakfast

One of the secrets of relieving pain and chronic inflammation is understanding the potential of your kitchen. This is the food your prepare in your home and eat to rebuild your body. Just open your fridge, pause, and look at what your body will be made of tomorrow.

Food for thought? Good – Now we can get started.

In this article we will create a wonderful natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant breakfast that will give you energy and a great start to your day. Interested? Excellent.

First I would like to introduce you to what I consider to be the greatest culinary invention of the last hundred years. The magical blender. No, not the juicer which separates the vital fiber from everything. Nor the food processor which does no more than a good knife and spoon and takes away the meditation from cooking.

Several mornings each week start with the Hamilton Shake, THE natural anti-inflammatory breakfast.

Nothing comes out of a plastic tub at vast expense from a health store, in fact this is very economical. It goes like this:

The Ingredients for an Anti-Inflammatory Diet

I usually cut a pear, which are my favorite, into chunks and put it in the blender.

Depending on what is in the grocers it could also be an apple, papaya, mango, kiwi, grapefruit, pineapple or something that catches my eye.

Then I add half a cup of my seed mix made from equal parts of sunflower, sesame, flax and pumpkin. This delivers Essential Fatty Acids (Omega 3) and protein with all the goodies of the whole seed with its fiber. I buy a pound of each at a time. Mix them and store this in a big jar in the fridge.

Then I add berries. The dark berries, blueberries, blackberries and so on, are loaded with antioxidants called flavonoids and are just as good as the exotic, highly priced stuff from the Amazon. They freeze really well. My freezer is nearly full by the end of the season and this lasts the year.

This is the base. Then in go the super extras:

Tumeric is one of the very best anti-inflammatory herbs in nature. I can get fresh Turmeric in my local store, I put in a chunk about the size of the top joint of my thumb. This is a huge dose of curcumin with all the extras of the whole food.

I can also get fresh Burdock root, a wonderful liver and blood cleansing herb. A chunk the size of my finger goes in. This is called Gobo in Asia and eaten as a vegetable.

The Stinging nettle season is on where I live and I pick this from the wild.

They don’t sting you when you blend them. The mix inactivates the sting and the natural minerals and anti-inflammatory action does you a power of good and suppresses allergies too. In goes a handful. They are great dried.

You can also cut up raw carrots or celery.

Here is the key: I put in all sorts of other things according to my mood and what’s looking at me out of the cupboard.

The only limit is your imagination and your growing level of knowledge.

Play with it. You will save yourself hundreds of dollars in supplements and drugs.

Add water and blend until smooth, adding cold or warm water (almond milk unsweetened is also fine) as needed to achieve your preferred consistency. If you have more than you need for breakfast save some until later.

This mix, taken for breakfast or at any other time, is an excellent nutrient meal and a well tolerated delivery system for large quantities of nutrients and healing herbs.

Have fun and know that you are reducing inflammation, oxidation and pain.
