Hair Straighteners: Titanium Vs Ceramic

Hair straighteners, or flat irons, have been around for over a decade now, and many different types have been produced in that time. Differences in style, heat settings, heating technology and most notably, plate materials. The plates, or blades, are the point of contact between the hair and the hair tool, and therefore, can be of huge significance when it comes to how your iron performs. Up through the late 1990’s, Teflon or aluminum plates were pretty much the common material. As innovation progressed, hair tool developers realized that these materials cause hot spots, and damage to the hair due to the uneven heat distribution.

In the early 2000’s, a ceramic coating was placed on the aluminum plates. This coating provided a more even heat distribution, and less damaging effects to the hair. It wasn’t long before some companies started developing solid ceramic plates. The solid ceramic plates have great heat distribution, but are brittle, and over time can crack. These cracks end up snagging the hair and give the user a terrible hair straightening experience.

Although ceramic is still being used in many large brands such as CHI and Conair, it has its issues. The manufacturing process for ceramic coated plates is not high tech. Molten ceramic material is sprayed like paint, onto the contact surface of the aluminum plates. The plates are then kiln-heated to cure. The small layer of ceramic that is approximately 0.2mm in thickness, doesn’t provide an extreme amount of protection from the heaters within the aluminum plates. Also, the difference in properties from the aluminum and ceramic cause the materials to detach over time, and eventually the coating rubs off, giving you essentially, an old-fashioned aluminum hair straightener from the 1990’s.

In the mid 2000’s, companies like Ozon and Babyliss discovered the properties of titanium could make a better flat iron. By 2011, titanium had become the newly accepted professional choice by hairdressers. The titanium plates widely used today are not 100% solid titanium, but rather, an alloy commonly referred to as nano titanium, which has just enough of the element to get the desired properties, without getting the undesired ones. Titanium plates last for years, never crack or scratch, and outlive the iron itself. The composition of the plates also give the plates the most even and responsive heat distribution, giving no hot spots, and allowing the iron to glide smoothly through the hair.

In conclusion, in the battle vs. ceramic and titanium flat irons, titanium wins without question. Ceramic irons perform as well as a titanium iron, for the first month or so, but after time, the plates, whether solid or coated, give way, and eventually snag and damage hair.

You also want to choose healthful soups, salads and cereal or this diet could be counterproductive.

If you wanted to follow this type of diet for a week it could provide some fast results. Here are some tips to make it a little bit safer and more nutritious:

Hearty, Healthy Soups

Change the soup recipe regularly to ensure it has enough vitamins and protein and not too much sodium. Soups with meat and beans are a great idea. Stews are also a good option for a dinner time meal.

Lots of Colour in your Salad

A salad that’s made of mostly lettuce won’t be all that nutritious or filling. The more colour, the more nutrients. Don’t hesitate to add grilled chicken, hard boiled eggs and beans to the salad as well.

Vary your Cereals

Try some high protein, healthy Kashi or multigrain cereals and don’t forget to add fruit or nuts to the cereal for extra nutrients and satiety.

A soup, cereal and salad diet could definitely help you with weight loss goals for a short term and if you do it right you could end up with a lot of variety and nutrition in this diet.

The Ultimate Guide for a Makeup Noob

For a makeup beginner, choosing what to buy and start from can be really difficult and leaves a little room for experimenting. Especially now you need to look your best everyday, every time.

Gone are the days, when a simple lip gloss and a little khol was enough to go by day. It is said that Cleopatra bathed in goat’s milk and honey to look her best. We’re all aware of the ancient connection between women and beauty. No wonder the cosmetics and beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar enterprise! Now you need to look your best everyday, every time. The range of hair products, skin lotions, and cosmetics available today is mind boggling. Buying, maintaining and replenishing beauty products is an expensive affair. After all, vanity comes with a price tag. And all the available options can be overwhelming for a total beginner.

If you walk into a store like Sephora or Ulta and find yourself overwhelmed, it’s probably safe to say you’re quite new to the makeup world. For a beginner, makeup can be quite intimidating. Today there’s such a huge selection of products available which often makes newcomers feel pretty confused. “What does that do?” “What do I need this for?” The choice seems endless. And more often than not, you end up buying something that doesn’t work for you. Don’t worry. Makeup, like many things, involves trial and error and lots of practice, but a little help never hurts. We’ve compiled a “makeup starter kit” of affordable essentials that every newbie needs in order to fully dive into the realm of makeup.

Primer

A primer, while not always essential, will help your makeup go on smoothly and increase its longevity. When choosing a primer, it’s important to take your skin type into consideration. If you have dry skin, you’ll want something hydrating and brightening. If you have oily skin with larger pores, you’ll want something mattifying and blurring.

BB Cream/ Foundation

If you’re new to makeup, try out a BB cream before jumping into the realm of foundation. BB, or “beauty balm,” creams provide light coverage and don’t feel heavy like some foundations can. Overall, they’re a good way to allow your skin to get used to the feel of wearing makeup. Like primers, knowing your skin type is important when choosing a BB cream.

Concealer

Even if you’re hesitant about using face makeup for the first time, a concealer is a must. Concealers contain more pigment than foundation and allow you to cover up things like dark circles or any unwanted blemishes.

Powder

Powder is essential for locking in your makeup and making sure it won’t slip and slide around all day. If you have drier skin, you can usually get away without it but if you have combo/oily skin, it’s a must. The most important part of your face to set is the T-zone-the forehead, nose and chin-as this is the area that produces the most oil.

Bronzer

Bronzer allows you to fake that sunkissed glow all year round. It’s best to apply a warm shade in the shape of a “3” along the sides of your face, hitting your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline.

Blush

Blush, when applied correctly, adds life to your face. A good way to choose a perfect blush is to select a color that mimics your natural flush. Peachier tones tend to look best on those with warm skin, while pink shades flatter those with cool skin.

Highlighter

It’s not a necessary step, but if you want to achieve that gorgeous, lit-from-within glow, you’ll need a highlighter. Highlighters are light, shimmery champagne or golden toned powders or liquids

Brow Pencil

Your brows frame your face and can seriously change your entire look. That’s why it’s important to keep them looking groomed and neat.

Eyeshadow Primer

An eye primer is absolutely essential if you want your eyeshadows to look amazing all day. Eye primers prevent your eyeshadows from creasing, make them appear more vibrant, and help them go on smoothly and blend easily.

Neutral Eyeshadow Palette

Neutral eyeshadows are the most basic and essential thing a makeup beginner needs in their kit. In general, light shades should be applied to your lid, inner corner and brow bone, medium shades to the crease, and dark shades to the outer corner and lower lashline.

Eyeliner Pencil

Eyeliner pencils can intensify any look and really make your eyes pop. Black can be used to add a sultry and smokey effect to your look, brown is perfect for every day definition, and nude can be used in the waterline to really open up the eyes.

Liquid or Gel Eyeliner

A liquid or gel eyeliner will add drama and is the perfect product to take your look from day to night. The formula you choose is your preference, however they both take some practice.

Mascara

If you could only buy one product on this whole list, mascara should be it. It’s amazing what long, full lashes can do for your face. Applying a few generous coats of mascara to both your upper and lower lashes will open up your eyes, brighten up your face and make you look more awake.

Lip Liner

Lip liner is an excellent way to define your lips and increase the longevity of your lipstick.

Lipstick

For a makeup beginner, lipstick is probably the easiest way to really play with different colors and looks. There are a variety of finishes and shades to choose from, and really, it’s all about experimenting!

Lip Gloss

Lip Gloss is a great way to add color and shine to your lips without dealing with the maintenance of a lipstick.

BODYBUILDING & "Paralysis Through Over Analysis" or "Do not Over-Think Bodybuilding"

Over the past month I have been thinking about the successful people as well as the unsuccessful people in bodybuilding, health and fitness in general. I have a LOT of contact with people locally as well as worldwide and here's what I have noticed.

"There are many smart trainees who spend way too much time pondering different strategies and ideas regarding training and nutrition.

This type of person is very knowledgeable and reads a lot. They are well informed and have researched all the latest training and diet information. They can discuss all the virtues and drawbacks of the different diets and workout programs on the market. They can also tell you the latest news about various internet muscle building Guru's, bodybuilding champions and fit movie stars. Unfortunately, despite all of their knowledge about bodybuilding diets and training routines it does not seem to be doing them much good – their physiques are usually subpar. This makes me think: is too much knowledge actually disadvantageous to building a great physique? Or could it be that they spend more time thinking about diet and training than actually doing the diet and training.

So what good is knowledge if the knowledge does not convert into muscular gains? If you cram your brain full of information on diet and training how are you to sort through all of this and determine what you should and should not do? Everyone says their diet, workout, supplement or whatever is effective or the best. The truly best diets and training routines are rare and elusive. The over-thinking bodybuilder is constantly trying to sift through all the information for what is "the best" routine they should be following.

The solution to the problem is less thinking and more action. When you over complicate bodybuilding you actually retard your rate of progress. Too many choices and too many high ideas create "paralysis through over analysis" where the bodybuilder is actually paralleled from staying on one routine or diet because they keep thinking that maybe they should be on a different diet or workout routine.

So what should you do? Train hard, heavy and often. Lift lots of weights, do your cardio workouts. A real bodybuilder is pumping iron 3 to 5 times a week and using all kinds of different methods for muscle strength and pump. Do not miss a workout unless it is for a reason that you really have no control over or an emergency.

Nutrition is the cornerstone . Without a disciplined approach to your daily eating regimen you will never be successful. Hearty and healthy eating is combined with intense workouts and cardio sessions for lower body-fat down to the single digits. You have to eat clean foods.

Supplementation and YOU ! A well thought-out nutritional supplement program will enhance and accelerate muscle growth and fat loss.

You must have realistic, achievable and exciting goals! A good goal is a realistic, attainable and exciting goal. We all need to generate enthusiasm for the process and drive to attain and maintain what needs to be done in order to obtain real and substantive results.

Set a timeframe for reaching a goal. As an example, if you wanted to lose 15 pounds then give yourself 15 weeks to do this. Set the goal, make the plan and say I can easily lose 15 pounds in 15 weeks. Then make a mini-goal, say to yourself that it is a measly one pound a week weight loss, I can do that.

Over-thinking nutrition . A healthy diet follows over time with consistency is all that is required for building muscle and losing fat. Constant changing foods, timing and amounts of food will create instability in the metabolism as well as the mind. Constantly changing the diet will never let you know or understand what is or is not working.

Over-thinking training . The biggest mistake you can make in weight training is to continuously keep changing the workout program. Train hard, train heavy and safe and on a continuous basis and you can make almost any workout program a success. Once progress comes to a halt you take a seven to twelve day rest and start all over on a different workout routine. It's that simple.

Over-thinking supplementation . Too many people believe that there exists a miraculous, safe, all natural just discovered nutritional supplement that will turn them into a Superman or Supergirl in four or six weeks. They think there exists some safe supplement that delivers steroid like results with none of the steroid risk factors. Let me tell you the truth, that supplement does NOT exist! Yes, we all can get sucked into the alluring advertisements that promise it all but the fact is this. Muscle, strength, fat loss and health are not a product, rather they are a product of consistency in clean eating, exercise and positive mental attitude towards life and living.

Want success? Start doing this today . Set in your mind a fixed goal, a goal that excites you and creates enthusiasm every time you think about it. Set up weekly mini-goals for keeping track of your progress. Establish a sound diet program and eating schedule and follow it every day. Follow a sound, progressive and challenging weight lifting routine and cardio program. Stick to the program for at least eight weeks, no excuses. Take a top of the line Multi Vitamin-Mineral tablet each and every morning and be consistent.

Follow the program for no less than eight weeks and preferably twelve weeks. Each week strive to hit mini-weekly goals. Hold this course for a few short months and I guarantee you'll realize dramatic gains in muscle size, definition, fat loss and overall great health

GHD Repairs – My GHD Hair Straightener’s Broke, What Shall I Do?

GHD repairs is a new sensation saving girls (and some guys) a lot of money. Let’s face it, if your GHDs break and are in need of repair then the alternative would be splashing out on a brand new set. Times are tough so we don’t all have £100 spare to spend on a shiny new pair of hair straighteners.

Luckily, there are some really good repair stores about now offering a GHD repairs service for little money. Many of these stores are easily found online by doing a simple search in your favorite internet search engine. Some of these GHD repairs guys offer an amazing 48 return GHD repair for under £20. That sounds too good to be true but many come with good testimonials and a telephone line where you can actually speak to someone.

God knows, you don’t want to send them to anyone so make sure that they are a qualified PAT certificated repairs company, most of these will be proper VAT registered businesses. If in doubt ask them!

Faulty GHDs are not as uncommon as you might think, after all GHD have managed to sell over 5 million hair straighteners in the last decade or so. The chances are after 5 years or so of pretty heavy use, they are bound to go wrong eventually.

I hear of some weird and wonderful ways of damaging these things; You may have burnt through the GHD cable, or the dog mag have bitten through it. One guy I spoke with the other day had a row with his girlfriend and he cut the power cable clean off from her GHD’s in a fit of anger! Rather him than me, it doesn’t bare thinking about what she my cut off in revenge! I heard of one girl’s irons sparking at the back of the GHD irons, and others just cut out all together, in these cases the GHD repairs companies have to open them up and change some parts such as the thermal fuse or r8 resistor.

Hey any if you are pretty handy with a screwdriver then many of these GHD spares and repairs guys will sell you a cable or a thermal fuse for you to do a GHD repair in the comfort of your own home. Cables are normally only a few quid and if you have a soldering iron in the tool box you may be able to fit a GHD thermal fuse (common fault with the mk3) or GHD R8 resister (common fault with MK4). At your own risk of course!

So if your the guy who cut the power cable from your girlfriends GHDs and want to avoid retribution, then you better get those GHD hair straighteners off to a GHD repairs company pretty fast. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Don’t forget to check the resources box below for my recommended GHD spares and GHD repairs companies.

The Effects of Alcohol Induced Anxiety

Alcohol Induced Anxiety

Millions of people worldwide are subject to the horrible effects of panic and anxiety. Most of those people are also predisposed to alcohol abuse, as alcohol tends to mitigate the horrible effects of anxiety because of its sedating properties. Unfortunately, this comes as a double-edged sword, as excessive drinking will eventually lead to Alcohol Induced Anxiety.

I have personally authored various articles on the subject of anxiety, panic and depression. In most cases anxiety develops from unwanted effects stemming from strange and uncomfortable sensations. Simply put, that is to say if you are predisposed to panic and anxiety, then the effect of anxiety will without doubt create sensations within you that will propel you into an Alcohol Induced Panic Attack, which afterwords may potentially lead you into a state of Alcohol Induced Depression.

To qualify that statement, I would like to first go over some of the biological effects of excessive drinking. Then we’ll return to how it relates to panic and anxiety.

01. After drinking excessively you will experience horrible headaches, as the high alcohol levels in the body will lead to dehydration. This dehydration will also cause intense dry mouth and throat, and an all over feeling of intense stiffness. Dehydration however, not only affects your brain, but also reacts with every other organ in the body. As a matter of fact, it would be much more accurate to say it affects all the cells that make up your body. All living things (including us) are mostly composed of water, and much like a plant, once we dry up, we wilt, and ultimately, if we continue to dehydrate, we will die. It’s no great surprise then, that dehydration by itself will cause very uncomfortable sensations within your body, and if you are predisposed to anxiety to begin with, then these effects will surely put you on the path to an Alcohol Induced Panic Attack.

02. Sensitivity to environmental stimulus – After a bout of excessive drinking, you will find that you are unable to handle noises or bright lights. This problem is brought upon by the fact that alcohol causes the central nervous system to become hyperactive. When this occurs, every sensory feeling that you have will heighten, thereby making you many times more sensitive. For sufferers of anxiety, this is simply not good. Anxiety is created by sensations that trigger an increased flow of adrenaline, which in turn triggers the attack. Therefore, it is safe to say that hyper-sensitivity is not good for those attempting to remain calm and free of panic and anxiety.

03. Nausea and vomiting is also common as this is the body’s way of ridding itself from the alcohol. The increased levels of digestive chemicals causes the pain, nausea and vomiting to occur. Here again we have a created uncomfortable sensations that can create a panic attack to occur.

04. Another anxiety causing effect is fatigue, which is brought upon by low blood sugar levels. Blood sugar is one of the chemicals that are responsible for making sure that the muscles in the body have enough energy to function properly. Low blood sugar levels can cause the body to not have enough energy, which in turn causes mental sensations of worry, fear and ultimately panic to develop.

05. As your body works on ridding itself of the poisonous toxins, and your organs try to play “catch-up”, you will also be going into a state of alcohol withdrawal. Typical symptoms include but are not limited to; profuse sweating, tremors, and you will feel dizzy, light headed or disoriented, and may experience a pronounced loss of short term memory, sometimes referred to as a blackout. The more alcohol that you consumed, the more pronounced and long lasting these uncomfortable effects will be.

06. The effects of the hangover will compound upon themselves, and as the strange and uncomfortable sensations within your body heighten, the fear and worry will increase, which will turn to panic. The increasing levels of panic will cause a sudden surge of adrenaline into your bloodstream, which will immediately raise your already elevated heart rate (as a result of dehydration) to dangerously high levels. That inconjunction with the low levels of electrolytes, normally used to maintain proper heart function, may cause your heart to beat erratically or even go into full blown cardiac arrest and eventual death; depending of course on your overall health and how often you binge drink.

07. Hospitalization may be required depending on the severity of the Alcohol Poisoning.

From this, we can surmise that excessive alcohol intake to self medicate against the effects of anxiety is NEVER a good idea. Sure one or two glasses is generally okay, but mind numbing abuse is potentially a deadly choice. There are so many more options available besides the abuse of alcohol, that you really owe it to yourself to seek safe, natural and proven techniques.

I hope this article has helped steer you in making the right choice for yourself and your family. Please remember that alcohol can be very poisonous when abused, and although it may work as a short term solution to anxiety, it will ultimately perpetuate it in ways that will make it increasingly more difficult for you to manage.

Seek help for your self, and strive to live a healthy life. Anxiety and panic will be cured.

Thank You,

Greg Wilson

Natural Acne Cures – 5 Healthy Foods That Cause Acne Breakouts

You can cure your skin problem with natural acne cures. There is no need to resort to expensive over-the-counter products. Did you know that there are extremely healthy foods that make acne worse? Your health-conscious diet could be causing your breakouts.

These are the most dangerous foods because they are hiding behind the mask of healthiness. If you are prone to acne breakouts you need to stay away from these bad healthy foods.

Bananas

Bananas are high in sugar. That’s why they are so delicious. They also are high potasium and some vitamins. They truly are a healthy food. But, because they are high in sugar they will cause an insulin surge which leads to inflammation and acne. If you are looking for natural acne cures, then stay away from bananas, or at least reduce your consumption.

Corn

Just like peas, corn is high in sugar and is therefore an enemy of clear skin, even though in many ways corn is healthy. One of these reasons corn is so delicious is because it is sweet. Corn is loaded with natural sugars which raise insulin levels thereby causing acne. Until you get through your acne stage, stay away from corn.

Dried Fruit

Most fruit, though not all, is safe if you eat just a piece at a time. Eating too much fruit will give you a blast of sugar which will set off the inflammation process leading to acne. Dried fruit is bad for acne because just about everything has been dried out of it except the sugar. Dried fruit is essentially a lump of sugar. Eating just a few pieces can give you a surge of sugar, thereby raising insulin and starting inflammation process. stay away from dried fruits.

Granola

Natural cures for acne, you may have noticed, involving reducing your consumption of sugar. Here’s another food to avoid due to sugar. Most people looking for a health breakfast option turn to granola. I do. Too bad it’s usually loaded with sugar. This truly healthy food will send your blood sugar to the skies, thereby releasing a blast of insulin and setting off the inflammation process leading to your new pimples in a day or two.

Cheese

Cheese is so delicious and healthy. Lots of calcium and vitamins makes this food a health food favorite. To bad it too sets off the inflammation process which causes us to break out with acne all over our faces.

Many think that using natural acne cures means not eating the foods you like. That is not completely true. First try reducing the intake of these kinds of foods until you see your skin clearing up. You may find that your body can handle a certain amount of these foods without causing breakouts.

Top 10 Hair Dying Mistakes

Whether you want to want to get rid of that gray hair or you just want to have a new look, dying is a good way to achieve it. Unfortunately, hair dying entails consequences that may damage and dry your hair when used inappropriately. The selected color of your dye should blend with the original color of your hair and eyebrows and to enhance your features. Experimenting is good, but dyes can be rough on your hair when used frequently. Although it is best to dye at a professional salon or stylist, it is much cheaper at home with the same creative effect. Before you see the top 10 hair dying mistakes, it is important to have an understanding of the different types of hair dye that are available so you can put them in context.

Types of Hair Dye

1. Permanent hair dye

While dying your hair permanantly is, by some, considered in and of itself a mistake, the obvious benefit is that it lasts for a considerable time. As the hair grows, it is applied to the roots. It contains ammonia and peroxides, which can possibly cause dryness and damage. Exposure to the sun and salt water will cause the color to fade. That’s why in order to maintain the color, it is best to cover your hair by using a hat or bandanna when going outside.

2. Long-lasting Semi-permanent

As the name implies, has the longest life remaining even after more than 20 washes, depending on the brand.

3. Semi-permanent

These have the shortest lifespan for dyes. After 6-12 washes, the color will start to fade. This is recommended for first-time users and those who want to experiment with colors.

How to dye your hair safely and professionally:

– Separate hair into two quadrants. Then clip each part.

– Wear plastic gloves while mixing dye solution. Follow the directions written on the box.

– Squeeze a small amount of coloring into one quadrant. Streak thin stripes of color over the whole area of the quadrant. Put a clip on the colored part.

– Repeat the process after you have completed coloring the four quadrants.

– Consult instructions on how long you should leave it. Add a couple of minutes of wait to that of the suggested treatment time.

– Put on left over color mix to the entire head after a few minutes.

– Rinse with cold water.

Top 10 hair dying mistakes!

– Number 10: Applying dye to dirty, tangled hair

Deep condition your hair a month before dying to maintain color. Be sure your hair is relatively clean before applying. Trim hair especially dry and split ends to even out color. Hair should be slightly damp when dye is applied.

– Number 9: Using hair conditioner before you dye

Do not condition your hair a few hours before applying hair dye, shampooing will do the trick. Your hair needs to be free of free radicals such as dirt and oil as much as possible.

– Number 8: Choosing hair dye based on what the model on the box looks like

Consult the local salon or stylist on what colors would look best on you. The hair dye you choose should have the same tone as your skin color.

– Number 7: Forgetting to check for allergic contents

After choosing a brand, apply a tiny amount of hair dye near your neck or behind your ear to see if irritation, redness, inflammation, allergy, hair loss or any bad reactions occur. Wash the affected area right away if this happens. Remember the instructions carefully. Do the patch test 1-2 days before hair dye application.

– Number 6: Doing your entire head without testing a small amount of your hair first

Do a strand test by applying a bit of dye to a few stands of your hair to see if you got the right color.

– Number 5: Staining your skin or clothes

Protect your skin by wrapping a towel around your neck as the dye can irritate your skin or affect your clothes. Gloves should be used and must be included in a hair dye kit. Applying petroleum jelly or cream around your ears and neck part will keep off stains. Wipe off oil after shampooing. If you do happen to stain your skin, don’t worry, rubbing alcohol will remove dye stains from your skin

– Number 4: Picking a color that does not fit with your natural hair color

Pick a color one shade lighter when dying your roots. This will make the transition from your colored hair back to your natural hair color graceful without roots that are a completely different color sticking out. Obviously, this rule does not apply if you are dying your hair a completely different color than your natural hair color.

– Number 3: Losing hair

After dying, always rinse with cold or tepid water to avoid your own hair from falling out.

– Number 2: Over-dying hair

If you did not achieve the desired effect, using Liquid Tide can correct this. A couple of days of use will lighten the color until your hair returns to the original color. Instead of over-dying, do touch-ups every four to five weeks to keep your hair color picture perfect.

– Number 1: Dying eyebrows and eyelashes
